Jaroslaw Miklasiewicz was born in Poznan in 1948. Already at a young age age he was obsessed by drawing and painting.
After completing his secondary technical education, he started working as a technician at one of the large factories in Poznan. In his spare time he started painting and developed his skills by studying art books and frequent visits to galleries and museums.
In the years 1971-1972 he started to systematically investigate contemporary visual art and he tried out different techniques. He made such progress that in 1974 he received an award in a national competition “Rural Landscapes” by amateur artists, under the auspices of the Provincial Office of Poznan and various press agencies. One of the jury members was his famous fellow townsman and inspirer, the graphic artist and poster artist Zbigniew Kaja (1924-1983). This success marked a breakthrough in his artistry. In the years that followed, he confirmed his quality with awards at various competitions for amateur artists.
In 1983 the Ministry of Culture and Art granted him a license to establish himself professionally as a visual artist. He became a member of two professional associations and after only four years he was able to pay for his living from the income out of drawings and paintings.
Also as a professional artist he was awarded many times during important artistic events and competitions in Poland. In addition, he participated in individual and group exhibitions abroad, including the international Art Fairs in Ghent and Cologne.
Miklasiewicz has been inspired for his artistic products by the Flemish master Pieter Brueghel and the Polish painter Jerzy Duda-Gracz (1941-2004). A mild and ironic witness to his time, he is at his best depicting the absurdity of contemporary business activity.
His work is included in the collections of the National Museum in Poznan, the Ethnographic Museums in Warsaw and Krakow, the Municipal Museums of Poznan, Radom and Bratislava (Slovakia) and furthermore in private collections in Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Portugal, Ireland, Great Britain and the United States.
